Expanded Emotion Range in Text and Transcript Analysis

Imentiv AI now recognizes 32 distinct emotions across text and transcript analysis, expanding from the previous 28. This update introduces four new emotions:  sarcasm,  contempt,  envy, and  boredom. They are available automatically across direct text uploads, audio transcripts, and video transcripts.

No changes to your existing workflow or API integration are required. New analyses automatically include the expanded emotion range. Nothing to reconfigure.

Why This Matters

Imentiv AI's Text Emotion Detection has been enhanced from 28 to 32 emotions, adding support for sarcasm, contempt, envy, and boredom. This broader emotional coverage enables organizations to better interpret the nuances of written communication, leading to more accurate insights and better-informed decisions.

Meet the Four New Emotions

Sarcasm

Sarcasm expresses criticism through words that often mean the opposite of their literal meaning.

For example:

"Great. Another software update."

Traditional sentiment analysis may interpret this as positive because of the wording. Imentiv AI recognizes the underlying sarcastic intent, providing a more accurate interpretation of the response.

Contempt

Contempt identifies language expressing dismissal, disrespect, or a sense of superiority.

For example:

"It's easy for you to say. You're not the one dealing with this."

Unlike anger, contempt reflects judgment toward a person, product, or situation, providing additional context that broader emotional categories may miss.

Envy

Envy reflects language expressing dissatisfaction when comparing oneself with someone else's advantage.

For example:

"They always seem to get the interesting projects."

Recognizing envy separately helps distinguish social comparison from other negative emotional responses.

Boredom

Boredom captures language that reflects low interest, repetition, or lack of engagement.

For example:

"This is the same thing over and over again."

Rather than treating these responses as neutral, Imentiv AI text emotion analysis identifies boredom as its own emotional category when it is expressed through language.

Where the Expanded Emotion Range Helps

The expanded transcript emotion range helps distinguish subtle emotional differences in conversations. Whether you're reviewing product testing sessions, UX interviews, customer feedback, coaching conversations, or sales calls, identifying emotions such as sarcasm, contempt, envy, and boredom provides additional context that helps teams interpret with richer emotion responses and make better-informed decisions.
