Mood
Mood is a sustained emotional state that influences how a person thinks, feels, and responds to the world over minutes, hours, or even days. Unlike fleeting emotions, moods are more diffuse, less tied to specific events, and shape overall perception and behaviour. A person may feel low, irritable, uplifted, calm, or neutral without knowing exactly why. Mood creates the backdrop against which day-to-day experiences are interpreted and processed.
Psychologically, mood results from a combination of internal factors, such as stress levels, sleep quality, hormonal rhythms, and cognitive patterns, and external influences like environment, social interactions, or daily demands. Moods guide attention, colouring how individuals interpret situations, engage with others, and make decisions. A low mood may amplify self-doubt or negative interpretation, while a positive mood promotes openness, resilience, and flexible thinking. Understanding mood helps individuals recognise their emotional baseline and intervene earlier through regulation strategies such as mindfulness, grounding, or behavioural activation.

Emotion AI enhances mood awareness by interpreting subtle cues that reflect internal states. Video analysis can identify micro-expressions, facial softness or tension, and shifts in emotional neutrality. Audio-based detection recognises changes in tone, pacing, and vocal energy that often align with underlying mood. Text emotion analysis helps identify patterns such as rumination, pessimism, clarity, or optimism in written reflections. Together, these multimodal signals help individuals and professionals track mood trends over time, offering a deeper understanding of emotional patterns and their triggers.
